A zakat calculator that gets the nisab right — and gives a clean zero below it
Zakat on wealth is an old, settled sum: when a Muslim's zakatable wealth has sat above the nisab for a lunar year, one fortieth of it — 2.5% — is due. NURA's calculator is exactly that sum and nothing more. It adds up your assets, subtracts your debts, compares the remainder to the nisab, and takes 2.5% only if the remainder reaches the threshold. Below the nisab the answer is a clean zero, never a misleading “almost.”
How the sum is built
You enter five plain numbers, and NURA computes the rest live as you type:
- Cash & savings — bank balances and cash on hand.
- Gold value — the current market value of your gold.
- Silver value — the current market value of your silver.
- Business assets — stock and receivables.
- Debts owed — subtracted from the total.
Gross zakatable wealth is cash + gold + silver + business. Net wealth is that minus debts, floored at zero — you can never owe zakat on a deficit. Every field is coerced to a finite, non-negative amount, so a stray character or a negative can't corrupt the result.
The nisab is a weight of metal, not a fixed price
The nisab moves with the market because it is defined as a weight of precious metal, not a currency figure. Rather than ship a gold price that would be stale within the hour, NURA lets you fix the threshold three ways:
- Gold · 85g — enter today's gold price per gram; NURA multiplies by 85.
- Silver · 595g — enter today's silver price per gram; NURA multiplies by 595.
- Enter value — type the nisab figure straight in, in your own currency.
These are the common classical weights (some scholars cite ~87.48g gold and ~612.36g silver; 85g and 595g are the widely used figures). Until you supply a gram price or a direct value, the threshold reads as “not yet known” — NURA will not assume everyone qualifies just because the price field is empty.
The verdict, stated plainly

Amounts are grouped to two decimals with no assumed currency symbol, because the money is yours and so is the currency.
