Get an OpenAI API key and connect it to NURA

NURA's optional AI assistant, Noora, can think with OpenAI's GPT models using your own OpenAI account. Your key stays on your device and your messages go directly from your phone to api.openai.com — NuroNova Genix Co. runs no server in between. Here is the whole setup, start to finish. 1. Create an OpenAI account

Go to platform.openai.com and sign up (or sign in if you already have an OpenAI or ChatGPT login). The API platform is a separate area from ChatGPT — an API key is what NURA needs, not a ChatGPT subscription.

2. Add billing credit

OpenAI's API is prepaid pay-as-you-go. Open Settings → Billing, add a payment method, and buy a small amount of credit — the minimum top-up is typically around $5, which for text conversation lasts a long time. Without credit the key will exist but every request will be refused with a quota error, so this step is not optional.

3. Generate the API key

Go to API keys (platform.openai.com/api-keys) and choose Create new secret key. Give it a name like “NURA” so you can recognise it later. The key begins with sk- and is shown only once — copy it immediately. If you lose it, you simply create another and delete the old one.

4. Paste it into NURA

1. Open NURA and go to Settings → Connect.
2. Under Her mind, choose OpenAI GPT.
3. Paste your sk-… key into the key field and tap Save. The field is a password field, and once saved the key is shown only masked (last four characters).
4. Tap Test her mind. NURA sends a tiny four-token request and reports back which model answered — if it says Connected, you are done.

NURA defaults to gpt-4o-mini, a fast, inexpensive, tool-capable model — the right balance for a watch. NURA will not let you accidentally misfile a key: if you paste a Claude key (which starts with sk-ant-) under OpenAI, it is refused before it can ever be sent to the wrong provider.

What it will cost

OpenAI bills per token, and gpt-4o-mini is one of its cheapest models. Ordinary daily conversation with NURA costs on the order of pennies; a few dollars of prepaid credit typically lasts a long time, because NURA keeps each turn short and bounded and only calls the model when you actually talk to it. Exact per-token prices change over time — check OpenAI's pricing page for current numbers — but for text, this is a low-cost way to use the assistant.

Note that voice is separate and more expensive. Speaking replies aloud uses an ElevenLabs key (billed by characters), not your OpenAI key. You can run the whole text assistant on OpenAI and leave voice off.

Keeping it safe

• Your key never leaves your device except to OpenAI, and NURA never logs or displays it in full.
• If you ever suspect a key is exposed, delete it in the OpenAI dashboard and create a new one — that instantly revokes the old key everywhere.
• You can set a monthly spend limit in OpenAI's billing settings for peace of mind.
