The basics

Is NURA free?

Yes. NURA is a free iPhone app. Prayer times, the athan, Qibla, and every daily tool work without paying anything.

Do I need an account or a sign-in?

No. There is no account and no sign-in. You open the app and use it. Because there is no login, there is also no profile of you on a server anywhere.

Do I need an AI key to use it?

No. The AI assistant, Noora, is entirely optional and off until you choose to enable it. Prayer times, Qibla, adhkar, the 99 Names, the Qur'an tracker, zakat, tasbih, the Ramadan tools, and the watch face all work fully without any AI and without a connection. If you do want the assistant, you add your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Together key — see below.

Privacy

Does my data leave my phone?

For the core app, no. There is no NuroNova server: your prayer settings, saved places, sleep estimate, health entries, contacts, tool data, and any key you save are stored on your device, because we do not run a backend to send them to. The one exception is the optional AI — when you enable it and paste your own provider key, your message text goes directly from your phone, under your own provider account, to the provider you chose (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Together). NURA never proxies, sees, or stores that text, and your key is only ever shown to you masked to its last four characters.

Is my data encrypted and totally safe?

We describe the architecture precisely rather than in slogans: the app has no account and no backend, stores your data locally, computes prayer times deterministically on-device, and uses your own provider key for the optional AI. That design removes whole categories of risk — there is no central database of users to breach — but no software is beyond every risk, and we will not claim otherwise.

Accuracy

How accurate are the prayer times?

Prayer times are computed on your device from solar astronomy for your exact coordinates — the standard solar-position method (declination and the equation of time, then hour angles). It is deterministic: the same inputs always give the same times, with no network, model, or heuristic involved. The same engine powers our reference site, nuraprayer.com.

Which calculation method and madhhab does it use?

The default is the Muslim World League convention. You can switch to ISNA, Egyptian, Umm al-Qura, Karachi, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, Singapore, Tehran, or Jafari; choose Asr by the standard (Shafi'i) or Hanafi method; apply per-prayer minute offsets; and pick a high-latitude rule. Where the sky genuinely cannot answer (a polar day), NURA marks the time unavailable rather than inventing one.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Prayer times, Qibla, the athan, and the daily tools all run on the device with no signal. Only the optional AI needs a connection, because it calls your chosen provider.

What NURA is — and isn't

Is the Qur'an text inside the app?

No. The Qur'an khatm tracker follows your progress through the 604 pages only; it never displays mushaf text. Adhkar and du'as are a small, authentic, source-labelled set, and scripture recited from the Mushaf (such as Ayat al-Kursi) is referenced, not reprinted.

Is it a medical app?

No. The health tools are an organizer, explicitly never a doctor. They record readings and flag a dangerous value loudly with "seek care now," always alongside a note that this is general information, not medical advice. There is no code path that diagnoses a condition or prescribes anything.

Can it really tell how I slept?

It offers an honest estimate. The presence engine reads how long your iPhone lay still overnight using the motion coprocessor (no background mode) and says "your phone was still for about that long, so it looks like you slept" — never a hard "you slept eight hours." It is an observer of the phone, not a witness to you.

Trust and release

How was it tested?

The app carries roughly 1,327 automated tests and has been through an independent 14-agent adversarial bug audit (22 real bugs found, 21 fixed and shipped) and a 14-agent security review whose findings were addressed. It is built with Capacitor 6 and React 19.

When will it be on the App Store?

NURA is coming soon to iPhone; it is not on the App Store yet. It is made by NuroNova Genix Co., a Delaware-registered company headquartered in Houston, Texas.
